Here’s one you can put down to pure speculative speculation: there’s a chance James Mangold will work on DC’s next Swamp Thing movie. The first phase of the “Gods And Monsters” series, which aims to permanently alter the continuity of the DC Universe, was laid out in the reveal of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios slate. This slate featured a number of intriguing projects, including a new Superman and a brand-new Batman, among many others. The classic comic book monster Swamp Thing, whose tragic tale has been at the center of some of the most cherished DC storylines, got his own movie to cap it all off.
But today, none other than James Mangold (of Logan, Ford V Ferrari, and a certain upcoming film by the name of Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny) posted on his Twitter feed a panel from a Swamp Thing comic. Gunn’s announcements didn’t come with any indication of filmmakers that might be involved in the slew of projects. If this is a coincidence, it’s a very significant one.
Will he appear in Gunn’s upcoming Swamp Thing film? Is he just a comic book geek who is excited about the idea of a big-screen adaptation? Could there possibly be another swamp-related event taking place in Mangold’s life right now? There isn’t much information available now, but it’s exciting to think that the director of Logan will portray the giant green gooey guy in a convincing manner at DC Studios. Be on the lookout, people.
